Reichenbach day

Photobucket

Saturday morning, Sam and I joined The Pink House family for a Reichenbach day gathering at Multnomah Falls. The event was hosted by The Blue Carbuncle Society, but open to the public, and they encouraged Victorian mourning clothing. We were all over that.

I pieced together my outfit with thrift store finds, altered the jacket, and threw together a bustle, but just a few days before, found Sam and actual Victorian coat at Magpie Vintage. We were all kinda jealous.

The procession was really nice, and we all posed for a picture to Save Undershaw, the home of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (it's in danger of becoming developed and not preserved as his home, sign the petition if you have a moment!).

After that we went to lunch at Edgfield, and strolled around a bit, finding a little shack that's been turned into a bar and smoking room. Sam smoked his pipe a la Sherlock Holmes, and we both had a bit of bourbon. But we did kind of freak out the tourists when they walked in.

You all look so amazing.....beautiful. Im going to sign that petition you mentioned. So sad when developers want to get their greedy hands on something so special to destroy it. Fingers x it gets saved.

I'm so jealous that you guys get to celebrate Reichenbach day properly. All I can do down here in Australia is re-read "The Final Problem". Your outfits look fantastic, and you did a wonderful job on the bustle!

My boyfriend and I are both so jealous of this! How cool. Also, you are very talented at altering and making outfits. That looks like it was transported from the 1800s.

I love that your husband smokes a pipe. I've tried to get my boy to carry one as an accessory, at least, to no avail.

You are amazing, Solanah! I love how you and your family come together, find these causes, historical places, reasons to gather, authentic attire and pose for such incredible photos! You are living my dream...playing dress up and celebrating a time-gone era! I think it's about time for a "Vixen Vintage" reality TV show! It would be my favorite program! I am off to check out the petition. I would love to know more about this historical place that needs to be saved!
Best Wishes and Blessings,
Amanda

Amazing pictures! That scenery is incredible, I will definitely be off to sign the petition. Sam certainly looks the part with his pipe and I am very jealous of your Dr's bag and umbrella. Fantastic outfits all round.

Ooh love it! Can I ask where you got the bird for your hat? It's exactly what I've been looking for for a project I'm working on!

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been a Doyle fan for as long as I can remember, and it would be a horrible shame for his home to be torn down.
